The Santo Domingo - Samana road is avancing

The new Santo Domingo - Samana road is in the construction final stage and will be equipped with three toll stations, which will charge a fee according to the mileage and depending on the type of vehicle. This new highway will boost to improve the economy of the region of Samana and the tourism industry in the area.

The road will have two lanes of 3.65 meters each and will include a total of 12 bridges and four intersections in his journey.

The work of compaction, priming and asphalt are made in several tranches at once, so it is expected that the works completed in time estimate, between may and june.

Every year the humpback whales arrives to Samana Bay to mate and have offspring. They come from five separate areas of North Atlantic Ocean. There are some of them that travel more than 4000 miles to reach the bay.

According to statistics from the Dominican Ministry of Environment, about 40,000 people have the opportunity to see this natural spectacle every year. With the increased construction of new resorts and the first phase of the new SD-Samana highway - ready for the month of April, the flow of tourists and economic vitality of the area will increase significantly.

Project for the Development of Artisanal Fishing in the area of Samana executed with the support of the Japanese government

The project aims to stimulate the activities of artisanal fishermen and increasing fish production through the creation of the Training and Research in Fishing Centre , in which incorporate new methods of fishing on the coast and offshore in the Dominican Republic.

The government of Japan has invested 338 million yen and has donated an important set of equipment for the operation of the centre.
